Community Involvement
Dr. Campisi and the staff at Wading River Pediatric Dentistry feel that although sponsorships and financial contributions help to fund many amazing charities, nothing reaches those in need more then spending time out in the community through volunteering and pro-bono care. Dr. Campisi and his staff have volunteered hundreds of hours providing actual one on one time with those most in need. We are so pleased that our outreach programs have had the opportunity to help so many in need.

Smile Squad:
The Smile Squad is a branch of our office that Dr. Campisi set up to focus on philanthropy and community involvement. The Smile Squad is made up of current and past staff members, family members, many patients and their families, and other members of the community. The goal of the Smile Squad is to come together as a group to help and support those in need. Dr. Campisi’s vision is that through attending such things as benefit dinners, chinese auctions, benefits walks, charity events, blood drives, or charity baseball games as a group, it will help to show those in need that they are not alone and that we are here to help in any way we can. The Smile Squad is growing every day and is always looking out for future events. Every year, Dr. Campisi awards a Smile Squad Scholarship to a graduating senior or seniors that have shown a strong commitment to helping a child with special needs.
Support A Smile:
Dr. Campisi has been a member of Support A Smile from its start. The program was created by the Suffolk County Dental Society to assist underprivileged patients in receiving dental care. With the cooperation of the Suffolk County Family Service League, qualifying families are referred to a participating dentist and receive needed dental care free of charge.
Give Kids A Smile Program:
In cooperation with Stony Brook University Dental School and the ADA’s Give Kids A Smile Program, Dr. Campisi supervised dental students giving free exams and cleanings to underprivileged children. Held every year during February, the nationwide effort has included thousands of dentists and have helped over 100,000 thousand children.
Dr. Campisi’s passion for education stems from his belief that the more dentists that can successfully treat children with special needs, the more children will be able to be helped by having their problems addressed earlier and the prevention of additional children slipping through the cracks of the healthcare system.
Montefiore Children’s Hospital:
Through his voluntary lecturing to the Pediatric Dental Residents, Dr. Campisi has helped educate new pediatric dentists on how to treat patients suffering from Autism. By sharing his experience and knowledge, Dr. Campisi helps to provide knowledge that will assist them in feeling more comfortable treating patients with special needs as they begin their careers.
LIJ Hospital:
While working at Opti-Healthcare and DDI, Dr. Campisi volunteered his time to clinically train the pediatric dental students from LIJ Hospital. His hands on approach has helped these residents understand and overcome the challenges of treating patients with special needs.
Community Education:
Dr. Campisi and his staff routinely volunteer their time to educate groups on oral health. School wellness fairs, library programs, community events and presentations to Mommy and Me and Boy Scout groups are almost a weekly occurrence at Wading River Pediatric Dentistry. All are done in an effort to educate the public on the importance of good oral care.
Early Education:
Dr. Campisi feels that the most important dental education is that which is focused on the young child. He strongly believes that if you can get a young child to understand the basics of good oral hygiene, healthy dietary choices and the importance of good oral health, that knowledge will follow them throughout their lives. It is for that reason that Dr. Campisi encourages his entire staff to go to as many preschools and early childhood development centers as possible. Dr. Campisi feels so strongly about early intervention that he personally visits countless schools every year to help mold the students’ attitudes towards their teeth and to give them a strong advantage in protecting their smiles.
Community Involvement:
Along with his dedication to education and as a former college basketball player, Dr. Campisi feels that physical activity is an essential part of children developing healthy eating habits. Dr. Campisi feels strongly that children need physical activity to help develop overall health and self esteem. Along with coaching many of his own children’s sports teams, he has donated thousands of dollars in sponsorships for local sports programs in and around the community.
